Offline Virus Check for Windows Systems

This weekend, I found a tool that does a great job removing hard to kill viruses.  It can even knock out Internet Security 2010.

They make an iso that boots a linux AV console, which can scan the System Volume without any permissions issues.  The ISO is updated regularly with new signatures.

A word of caution:  It can scan and will *remove/rename* ANY infected file.  This is inclusive of drivers, which can then cause a BSOD when you boot back up.  Pay attention to the log, and make sure you have all the CD’s and drivers to do a repair install if necessary.

If you lose the link, be careful searching on the name – as there are several websites that rank higher than Avira but are not the tool (some are malware).
